Red Hot + Rio 2 Live!

An all-star benefit tribute to the music and culture of Brazil, Red Hot + Rio 2 salutes Samba Soul, the post-tropicalia movement of the 70s that merged elements of North American soul music with Brazilian rhythms. Mixing samba with R&B, soul with baiáo, pioneering artists like Jorge Ben Jor and Tim Maia signaled a cultural awakening that changed the direction of Brazilian music forever. The concerts at BAM bring together the newest generation of Brazilian and international artists who represent the legacy of this influential musical style.

Part of the proceeds will benefit BrazilFoundation’s AIDS-related projects. BrazilFoundation is a non-profit organization which invests in sustainable and socially progressive humanitarian causes throughout Brazil.

A portion of proceeds benefits BrazilFoundation

Silencio=Muerte: Red Hot + Latin, originally released on Jellybean Benitez’ H.O.L.A Recordings, was the tenth album in the Red Hot series created to fund the fight against AIDS in Latin America and the Latino community. The pairing of artists like David Byrne and Café Tacuba reflected a cultural encounter far ahead of its time that continues to provide a music-without-language-barriers soundtrack for the multi-cultural American experience.

WHO'S WHO on RED HOT + BLUE
For the first project in their long running AIDS benefit series, Red Hot brought together an acclaimed combination of musicians, directors, actors, designers and visual artists to raise funds and awareness against HIV and AIDS.

Explore the grid above to see and hear the results. Each artist brings their own unique style to Porter’s unforgettable pop classics.

RED HOT + BLUE features ground breaking videos from such acclaimed directors as Jonathan Demme, Wim Wenders, Neil Jordan, Alex Cox and Jim Jarmusch. Many of these short films address the impact of AIDS on society in the late 80s, especially in the lives of artists and musicians who were particularly hard hit as the epidemic spread.

The project includes work from leading visual artists Keith Haring, Sue Coe, David Wojnarowicz, Barbara Kruger, Gran Fury and Jenny Holzer.

The DVD is introduced by Richard Gere and includes interviews with John Malkovich, David Byrne, Charles Neville, Deborah Harry and Jean Paul Gaultier. As a bonus, it includes a live performance by Annie Lennox with Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter of her contribution to Blue, “Ev’rytime We Say Goodbye,” from the 1995 VH1 Honors Awards.
